Obituary: Fiore Venditti, 90, of Shelton

Fiore Venditti, age 90, of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Pietrina DiPalma Venditti, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Born in Ripi, Province of Frosinone, Italy on May 18, 1923, he was a son of the late Giuseppe and Maria Nicola Gesuale Venditti.

Fiore was a retired tile setter, having worked at the former Benny Tile Co. of Bridgeport.

Mr. Venditti enjoyed wine making and working in his garden. He was a very hard working, generous, giving person who loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Venditti and his wife Agnese of Shelton and Pasquale Venditti and his wife Amalia of Milford, five grandchildren, Roberto Venditti and his wife Aimee, Rosanna Mallozzi and her husband Mario, Pierre Venditti and his wife Marlene, Jean-Nicole Venditti and his wife Allison, Giacoma Kenworthy and her husband Matthew, 10 great grandchildren, Lucas, Mariano, Giuliana, Daniela, Paolo, Cristiano, Lucca, Amilio, Gian Francesco and Fiorella, a brother-in-law, Rocco DiPalma and his wife Angela of Shelton, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Andrea Venditti and two sisters, Clorinda Venditti and Iolanda Faustini.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Shrine, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in Ripi, Italy. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.

Lois Williams Adams, 84, of Milford, wife of the late Donald Q. Adams, died August 31, at West River Health Care Center.

Daughter of the late Alton T. and Dorothea D. Williams, she was born August 21, 1929, in Stamford.

She is survived by her children, Deborah Olmstead, Jeffrey Street, Sr. and Daniel Adams (Jane), grandchildren, Greer, Maeve, Tesse, Jeffrey, Jr., Erin, Peter, Jeremiah, Madelyne, Caroline and Jeremy, and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Owen, Lea, Alexander, and Jaylinn.

She was also predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth, Richard, and Melvin, and by a grandson, Tucker Olmstead, and a great-granddaughter, Bella Johnson.

A lifelong resident of Darien, prior to moving to Milford in 1999, Mrs. Adams was employed for many years at the New Canaan Medical Group, and was retired from American Tobacco, Inc.

She volunteered for several years at Milford City Hall and through her love of jazz was an active member of Milford Fine Arts.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT 06460. Memorial services will be private.

Obituary: Paul T. Mancuso, 71, of Spencer, Mass.

Paul T. Mancuso, age 71, of Spencer, MA, died on Friday, September 6th, in Golden Hill Health Care Center in Milford CT.

Mr. Mancuso was born in Waltham, MA on December 7, 1941 to the late Frank and Madeline Traversi Mancuso.

He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1960-1964 then worked as a baker for over 35 years. Paul was very active his entire life, including enthusiastically taking up swimming in his mid 60’s.

He was an avid music fan and collected not only old and rare recordings but also other items reflective of the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Paul was also well known for his homespun and very practical advice which he doled out to those he cared about regularly, often related to the precious nature of life and the need to always make time to enjoy it.

Survivors include his children: John Mancuso of Stamford, CT and Janet Kelly of Pemberton, NJ, four grandchildren; Janine, Katherine, Lauren and Ameila and several nieces and nephews.

Paul is pre-deceased by his brother, Dominic Mancuso and sister, Joan Martino.

Friends and family are invited to attend a service at 10:00AM DIRECTLY in the chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001 on Thursday September 12th.

Obituary: Beatrice Rita Tremblay Cravatas, 88, of Stratford

Beatrice Rita Tremblay Cravatas, age 88, of Stratford, the widow of John Cravatas, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, September 7, 2013.

Beatrice, a retired secretary for Harold Graphics of Stratford, was born in Fairfield to the late Eugene and Annie Tremblay.

She was a graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School and after graduation worked at the Bridgeport Brass Company, where she eventually met her late husband John.

After living in Miami, FL and Rochester, NY they settled in Stratford, where she lived since 1955. Beside her strong faith in the church, she dearly loved her family.

Survivors include her devoted sons Charles Cravatas of Stratford and Eugene Cravatas and his wife Jennifer, grandson James and granddaughter LaToya all of Bridgeport, a sister Lois of Milford and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by brothers Jack, Edward, and Gene and sisters Virginia and Kathryn.

“We will miss you Mom, God Bless”.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 11th at 9:15 a.m. in the Adzima Funeral Home 50 Paradise Green Place Stratford and at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.

Obituary: Dr. Gabriel N. Cusanelli, 91, of Milford, formerly of North Haven

Dr. Gabriel N. Cusanelli, age 91, of Milford, formerly of North Haven for 45 years, passed away peacefully at home on September 3, 2013. He was the husband of Emilia DeVita Cusanelli for 53 years.

He was born on December 6, 1921 in New Haven, son of the late Nicholas Cusanelli and Erminia Varrone.

Gabriel was a Physician for 45 years and practiced as a General Practitioner in private practice, in New Haven until 1994. In addition to private practice, he was the company physician for Sargent and Company in New Haven for 35 years.

Gabriel graduated from Yale University in 1943 and in 1946 from Medical school at The State University of New York Downstate Health Science Center, Brooklyn New York. Following Medical school, he served in the United States Army in Korea and Japan where he was assigned as the Port Surgeon. He was discharged as a Captain in 1949.

He was a member of the American Medical Association, Connecticut State Medical Society, the New Haven Medical Association and the Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians. He also belonged to the Yale Club of New Haven and Mory’s in New Haven. He was a former member of the Farms Country Club in Wallingford for 40 years.

Gabriel was an avid and loyal Yale football fan for 70 years and a member of the Yale Football Association. He attended nearly every home game. Gabriel was a very accomplished physician and well-read man, but his greatest joy was his family.

He was the beloved father of Gabriel H. Cusanelli (Giana) of Guilford, and Elizabeth Raccuia (Stephen) of Trumbull. He is also survived by his grandchildren Andrew, Talia and Krisandra Cusanelli and Christopher and Clare Raccuia,also several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and sister Gilda Lavorgna.

The Family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Vornovitsky, Dr. Robert Wiznia, Dr. Daniel Reuben, Dr. Chrisopher Loscalzo and Christy Reuben APRN, Visiting Angels of Woodbridge and the nurses of both Gentiva and Hospice Home Care for their excellent and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Road, Milford, Interment to follow at Nichols Farms Burial Ground, Cemetery Drive, Trumbull CT 06611. Friends and family may call on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460.

Peter Mason Shanley of Naples, Fla. and Essex, Conn., formerly of Milford, Conn., died Sept. 8, 2013.

Peter was born in Shelton, Connecticut on May 1, 1935 to Gertrude Mason Shanley and Howard Shanley.

Peter attended Fairfield Preparatory School and was a graduate of Milford High School and the University of Connecticut, class of 1956. He was veteran of the United States Army.

Peter was a businessman, entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Sloan and Company, a large specialty contracting company in West Caldwell, N.J. He enjoyed traveling, adventures, boating, entertaining and spending time with his family.

Peter was a member of the New York Athletic Club, the Pelican Club and the Essex Yacht Club.

He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Brown Shanley and his daughters Elizabeth Mason Lewis and Christine Martin Shanley. He also leaves behind step-children Dori Hutchinson (Kirk), David Stauss, James Stauss (Anne), Timothy Stauss (Anna) and their children Ted Hutchinson, Meg Hutchinson, Will Hutchinson, Jack Stauss, Mattie Stauss, Kate Stauss, Liam Stauss, Heidy Stauss, Nathaniel Stauss and Henry Stauss.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect Street, Essex.

Peter was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Obituary: June “Grandmere” Peck Tibbals, 96

June “Grandmere” Peck Tibbals, 96, died September 6, 2013, in Milford. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Thornton Tibbals for 66 beautiful years.

She was born in Stratford June 13, 1917, to the late Harold and Marion (Petak) Peck.

June attended local schools and was a secretary for the Visiting Nurses Association.

She loved singing in the gospel choir at the Milford Senior Center and playing pinochle with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

June is survived by her two sons; Thomas (Suzanne) Tibbals of Derby, Wayne (Florence) Tibbals of Milford, her grandchildren; Grace-Lynn Tibbals, Jo-Ann Ochman, Timothy (Katrina) Tibbals, Michael (Mara) Tibbals, Todd (Lynn)Tibbals great-grandchildren; Christopher, Danielle, Jacob Ochman and Kendra Tibbals. She is also survived by her sister Marcia (Henry) Peck Keyes of Merrimack NH, sister-in-law Meryl Rogan and nephew Jerry Rogan.

June gave meaning to the word “Lady” and impressed everyone she met with her gentle and caring personality. We will not look upon her like again.

Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 13, 5-8 pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St, Milford. A Prayer Service will be held Saturday Sept 14, at 10 am.

Mary F. Marcinkowski, age 62, beloved wife of Benjamin Marcinkowski and resident of Milford, made her final journey to eternal peace on Wednesday, September 3, 2013 at Yale New Haven Hospital with her loving husband by her side.

Mary was a native of Westport and also a longtime resident of Stratford.

She was a kind and compassionate woman who was a dedicated wife, daughter, sister, and friend.

Milford-OBT-Ellen-PinnEllen Marie Pinn (formerly Ellen Francovich-Bond) was born on February 28, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT.

Ellen passed away peacefully on August 17, 2013 in St. Augustine, FL surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was 81 years young.

Ellen was the beloved daughter of Victor and Grace Francovich. She is survived by her son James Bond and fiancé Eva Baker of Port Richey, FL; daughter Cathryn Bond-Perretti and husband John Perretti of St. Augustine, FL. Granddaughters Jen Sherman and husband David Sherman, of St. Augustine, FL, Jamie Williams and husband Glenn Williams of Westchester NY, Jill Martay and husband Drew Martay of Larkspur CA. Great Grandchildren Max Sherman, Matthew Williams, Hayden Martay and Logan Martay. Sister Barbara Borger of Stratford, CT is her only remaining sibling.

She is predeceased by her brother Joseph Francovich and her sister Carole Mingolello. Husband Morris Pinn lives in TN, Rhoda and Jeremy Rabkin of Washington, DC, Jerry and Nadya Pinn of TN. Grandsons Ari and Nathaniel Rabkin and Misha Pinn.

Ellen lived in Connecticut for 78 years and worked for Sikorsky Aircraft as a graphic illustrator. She was a gifted artist who won many awards for her beautiful watercolor portraits of people. She moved to St. Augustine, FL to be with her children, family and friends in 2010.

She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, mother-in-law and dear friend. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

A memorial service will be held for Ellen at Cody-White Funeral Home at 107 North Broad Street, Milford, CT on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from noon until 3:00 pm. There will be a reception following the service. Location and directions to the reception will be provided at Cody-White. Cathryn and James had a previous memorial service in St. Augustine, FL on August 24, 2013. In lieu of flowers Ellen had requested donations be given for lung cancer research.

The family has a time capsule to celebrate Ellens life, if you would like to include something special such as children artwork, photos, letters or cards, we would love for you to be a part of this. The family will collect these items after the memorial service. Please bring flat, printed matter only.

Obituary: John F. Mathews of Middletown

Milford-OBT-matthewsJohn F. Mathews of Middletown passed away on Wednesday September 11, 2013. He was the son of the late Margaret and Harry Mathews of Newport.

He was predeceased by his brothers Henry, and William and his sister, Marguerite Davidson.

He was the husband of the late Teresa (Rybinska) Mathews.

Hap was born and raised in the “Fifth” Ward in Newport and was a 1948 graduate of Rogers High School.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he graduated from the University of Rhode Island. While at U.R.I., he was active in sports and was a member of the 1955-56 undefeated football team.

He was retired from the State of Connecticut, where he served as the Director of Administrative Services in the Community-Technical College System. While at that position, he also served as President of the CSEA Union chapter at Norwalk Community College. He was transferred to Thames Valley Technical College, where he was elected a member of the Advisory Panel to the Board of Trustees of the Community – Technical Colleges. He also served as Treasurer for the AFSME Chapter for Technical Colleges.

He is survived by his four daughters, Carole Mathews of Camden, Maine; Sharen Thompson and her husband Greg of Greensboro, NC; Joanne Throwe and her husband Scott of Laurel, Maryland, and Christine Mathews of Davie. Florida. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

He also leaves his brother Robert and his wife Edith of North Kingstown, R.I. as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Wednesday September 18, 2013 St. Augustin’s Church on Carroll Avenue, Newport, RI followed by burial in St. Columba’s Cemetery, Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.

Richard B. Porter, age 79, husband of the late Carol Longacre Porter and longtime resident of Milford, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at his home.

Born on August 1, 1934, he was the son of the late William C. and Marion Morris Porter.

Richard was proud of his service in the Army Airborne. He was a selfless man who gave everything to everyone he met. He was especially proud of his kids and grandkids, and thoroughly enjoyed his retirement.

He was also a diehard Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Richard was a great man who will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his children, Sandi Porter, Richard Porter (Colleen), and Sheri Hulse (Greg); grandchildren Chris Porter, Geoffrey Hulse, Ashley Hulse, and Matthew Porter; step children Laurie Williams, Kara Taylor (Brad), and Melinda Kemp (Cliff); and step grandchildren Alyssa, Zack, Danielle, Colton; siblings William Porter, Carol Hubbell, and Sandra Porter; many loving nieces and nephews; and his first wife Pat Porter.

In addition to his wife Carol, Richard was predeceased by his step son Peter Williams.

Milford-OBT-HamelPhillip Hamel, age 79, Beloved husband of Louise Surrette Hamel and longtime resident of Milford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Milford Hospital.

Born on February 13, 1934 in Haverhill, MA, he was the son of the late George E. and Marguerite Budar Hamel.

Phillip’s greatest pride and joy was the love for his family; especially the love of his life, his wife Louise.

Phillip was the former owner of Hamel Typesetting. He also greatly enjoyed sailing, as well as camping in his RV as a member of the Wepawaug Sams Camping Club.

Phillip was a great man who will be truly missed by all who loved and knew him.

In addition to his loving wife Louise, Phillip is survived by his daughter Mary Louise Szychulski & husband Thomas; grandchildren Phillip Cahill & fiancé Elisa, Kristen Forde & husband Will, Tom Szychulski & wife Amanda; great-grandchildren Ashley Novak, Ryan Boothroyd Cahill, Lauren & Riley Jackman.

Phillip was predeceased by his son, Phillip S. Hamel

Mary DellaGioia Muzyka age 88 of Stratford the beloved mother of Kathleen M. Williams passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.

Mary was born on October 7, 1924 in Providence, Rhode Island and was the daughter of the late Antonio and Leonarda Intonte DellaGioia.

She was a retired waitress and co-proprietor of the former Piedmont Restaurant in Stratford.

In addition to her devoted daughter Kathleen of Stratford, she is also survived by two brothers, Michael DellaGioia and wife June of Milford, Joseph DellaGioia of Stratford, three grandchildren, Jordan, Andrea, Nicholas, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by her son, Michael J. Muzyka and sister, Laura Cannata.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Sept. 17, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Christ Episcopal Church 2000 Main Street Stratford officiated by Rev. Ellen Tillotson. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home 2220 Main Street Stratford on Monday from 4 – 7 PM.

Travis Kitchen, age 90, resident of Milford, husband of Rosemary Dugan Kitchen, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Masonicare in Wallingford.

From a previous marriage, he is survived by his daughter Judith Kitchen Evans, son Richard T. Kitchen and grandson Matthew Evans. He also leaves great grandchildren, Abe, Ben, Emily and Isaac Evans of Milford and Matthew Konareski of Guilford, CT.

Travis was born in Tupelo, MS and was the son of Richard and Vernie Lessel Kichen.

He is survived by his brothers Murle Kitchen, Charles Kitchen, sisters Mildred Core, Dorothy Kettleman and Betty Young of MS and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Farrell Kitchen and sister, Nona Wayne Houston.

Travis served with honor in the US Air Force in the 20th Air Force 348 Service Group. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Bronze Star. In 1946 he was one of the original founders of the VFW Post 7788 in Devon, CT.

A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, September 20th at 10:30 am at Cody-White Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Kings Highway Cemetery.  Friends and family may call on Thursday, September 19th from 4 to 7 pm at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460.

Antoinette (Toni) D. George, age 85, of Milford, beloved wife of the late Joseph George, passed away Tuesday September 17, 2013 in Golden Hill Health Care after a long illness.

She was born April 24,1928, in Bridgeport, to the late Alexander and Carmela (Ferante) DeMaio.

She worked as an assembler and welder at Bunker Ramo, until her retirement.

She is survived by her siblings Mary Davis of Fenton Missouri, Minnie & Edmond Sylvia of Florida, Josephine & John Lupica of Milford, many nieces and nephews, including niece and special friend Darla “Becky” Lupica, nephews John Lupica Jr. and Gary A. Lupica.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother Alexander DeMaio Jr., and sister Angelina Curtis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday September 20, 2013 at 10:30am in St. Ann’s Church Milford. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery Stratford. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the Mass from 9:00am at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St. Milford.

David was a devoted father to his two children, Matthew and Nicole of Milford.

David was born in Bridgeport, CT on May 5, 1960 to the late Gerard and Jean Finley Paquette.

David worked as an IT technician for many years and was an avid sports fan.

David was a loyal hardworking family man who put others feelings before his own.

Survivors include his brother/best friend; Gerard Paquette Jr. and partner Melody Guariglia, brother, Robert Paquette of Connecticut; nephews, Gerard Paquette and Deion Dinuzzo; mothers-in-law, Rita Sedensky and Leona Strang; brother-in-law, Kevin Strang and wife, Ann Marie. He was adored by the family dog Midnight.

Friends and family are invited to greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00PM-8:00PM at The Gregory F Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Avenue, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday morning at 9:30AM DIRECTLY in St. Ann Church, 501 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford. Interment will be private.

Valley-Milford-OBT-BorchertPhillip L. Borchert age 68 of Milford formerly of Seymour entered peaceful rest November 3, 2013 in West Haven.

He was born August 9, 1945 in Waterbury, son of the late Rev. Otto and Evelyn (Freiheit) Borchert.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated from San Antonio College, TX, University of the Philippines, Manila, and the University of Bridgeport, CT. Phillip was a retired Teacher and he also retired from the NY Times Magazines Division as an Administrator.

Mr. Borchert was also an accomplished actor; he performed in more than 80 productions of Summer Theatre, Dinner Theatre, and Repertory Companies tours. He also performed in TV and film, on the Guiding Light and The Doctors, and the TV film, Johnny We Hardly Knew Ye, and the MGM film, Yes Giorgio, as well several TV commercials.

He also enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Salvation Army, in  Bridgeport, and the Beth El Center, Milford. Phil leaves his loving sister, Susan Borchert of Oxford.

All services are private. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour is entrusted with the arrangements.

Milford-OBT-Malinowsky-001Patricia (Swanson) Malinosky, beloved wife of Carl Malinosky, Jr. and longtime resident of Milford, passed away peacefully on November 6th, 2013 at Golden Hill Healthcare Center.

Born on May 7th, 1936 in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Harriet Bower Swanson.

Pat was an avid skeet shooter and traveled to tournaments with her husband and son throughout the Northeast, Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, and Florida. She was a member of Seymour Fish and Game and Ansonia Fish and Game Clubs.

Among her many distinguished skeet shooting accomplishments include the first woman to break 100 straight targets in the .410 gauge (1975), chosen to 10 Ladies All-American skeet teams, elected to the Connecticut Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1987 and elected to the National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1990. She also served as an officer for the Connecticut Skeet Shooting Association and as a National Skeet Shooting director representing Connecticut.

Besides shooting, Pat had many interests which included playing the organ, needlepoint, and bowling. Her work career included administrative assistant work at a few companies.

Pat was an intelligent, witty, and social individual. Her calm demeanor masked a strong internal will, determination, and competiveness. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the skeet shooting community.

In addition to her loving husband Carl of 56 years, Patricia is survived by her son Carl Malinosky III and his wife Sharon; her sisters Elizabeth Wahl Crowell and her husband Albert, Evelyn Ducharme and her husband Kenneth; her brothers James Swanson and his wife Sandra, Edward Swanson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sister Elaine Swanson.

The family would also like to thank the 1st floor nursing staff at Golden Hill Healthcare Center for their care and support; as well as the Hospice Care team.

A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, November 11th, at 11AM at The Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford CT 06460. Burial will be immediately following at Kings Highway Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Sunday, November 10th, from 3:30-6:00 PM at Cody-White Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.

Saro “Sal” A. Brunetto, age 92, of Milford, passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

He was born in Bridgeport on September 1, 1921, the son of the late Teresa (Scuderi) and Sebastiano Brunetto.

Sal attended Harding High School in Bridgeport. He served in World War II as an infantryman with the U. S. Army. He saw action in the European Theatre at Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and was a guard to Nazi war criminals at the end of World War II.

Sal was a retired Postal Carrier where he delivered mail in Bridgeport for over 30 years.

He was predeceased by his twin sisters, Domenica “Mae” Volpe and Marion Masotta.

He is survived by his nephews, Richard Volpe, Kevin Volpe and Frank Masotta and his niece, Janet Hinchey as well as several great nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his aide, Diane Diaz of West Haven.

The family of Uncle Sal is extremely grateful for the care and compassion she has shown him.

Friends are invited to meet directly in Kings Highway Cemetery, Cherry St., Milford at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 for graveside committal services with military honors. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.

Obituary: Tom Viscount, former World War II USMC Corpsman

Tom Viscount, former World War II USMC Corpsman, passéd away on Nov. 5, 2013 in Jupiter, Fla., at age 88.

Mr. Viscount served in the Central Pacific Theatre in the Saipan, Tinian, Guam, Iwo Jima and Okinowan Island Campaigns,earning the Presidential Unit Citation from 1943-1945. His final medical military service was aiding the Japanese survivors of the Nagasaki A-Bombing at the end of the war.

Mr. Viscount served as a Milford teacher at Pumpkin Delight Elementary School from 1962 to 1981.

He is survived by his brother, Joe Viscount, nine nephews and niece.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at St Gabriel Church in Milford at 4:00PM on 11/20/13 for relatives and friends.

Donations to the St Jude Children’ s Hospital in Tennessee, in lieu of flowers, are encouraged.
